Olfactory Nostalgia with Maxine Midtbo
VETIVER
At In Fiore, we believe the skin is a sense organ and scent initiates healing. Olfactory Nostalgia is a look at medicinal triggers, scented memories, and the feelings that ensue when taking in a distinct ingredient.
Meet Maxine Midtbo, Cincinnati-based ceramicist and founder of Memor studio. The artist is known for her eclectic minimalist aesthetic, using a variety of materials like pearls, seashells, coins, and glass to craft stunning mosaic pieces.
“The capacity to smell acts on the brain in fantastic and possibly unknown ways. ”
– Maxine Midtbo
Name:
Maxine Midtbo
What & Where:
Cincinnati, Ohio-based artist and founder of Memor studio.
Ingredient:
Vetiver.
Olfactory Nostalgia:
Vetiver reminds me of Spring. I’m drawn to woodsy, almost masculine scents that are sophisticated and call to mind the natural environment or a higher self.
Perfumery as Medicine:
The capacity to smell acts on the brain in fantastic and possibly unknown ways. If smelling a specific scent can transport you back to a moment in time or bring up a feeling, there’s no telling how else it can alter our mind, mood, and the health of our being.
