Julie's Medicine Cabinet
This month in Julie’s Medicine Cabinet, our founder details what she’s currently coveting. Julie’s picks for April are all about gut and liver support since, in ancient Chinese medicine theory, spring is the best time of year to do a cleanse or gentle detox. That said, Julie strongly believes that you shouldn’t take a supplement unless you know why you need it and with the advice of a professional.
So without further ado, from her go-to supplement for gut balance support to the tincture that detoxifies the liver, here are Julie’s discoveries, the products you need and never knew you needed.
A.D.P. Biotics Research
This micro-emulsification, slow-release oregano supplement is a Julie must-have. It helps control SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and supports the immune system, fighting infections and inflammation. “I’m a huge proponent of oregano, but it does have to be used with some restraint. This is a very safe and effective version. It’s really wonderful for restoring the gut, especially if you’re someone like me living in Mexico, where you can be susceptible here. So I like to keep it on hand and cycle it through once every four months.”
Panaxea Gut Clear
This effective and well-researched complex of traditional Chinese herbs promotes healthy gut flora and mucosal healing. “Gut Clear focuses on healing the mucosal lining of the stomach. It’s a powerful supplement. I cycle through this during a cleanse and one or twice a year if I need it.”
Standard Process A-F Betafood
“I take this regularly as part of my foundational supplements. It supports healthy bile flow and the gallbladder, which supports healthy liver function.” Julie loves Standard Process supplements because they are all nutrition-based, and this one is an excellent source of vitamin A to support a healthy liver function.
Immun’Attune
Our very own Immune’Attune contains astragalus, a multihyphenate ingredient that may benefit symptoms of liver disorders. “Astragalus promotes gut health creating healthy immune cells and improving our digestion. This has been said many times, but 70% to 80% of our immune cells exist in the gut. And I believe this is where good health starts.” Immun’Attune also contains a high level of inulin, one of the components your body needs to make healthy immune cells, improve digestion, and regulate blood sugar.
Lâche-Lymphe
The monarch herb in Lâche-Lymphe is calendula. While it has incredible effects on the breast, pelvic and skin lymphatics, it is also an excellent tonic for the liver and gut. Calendula also promotes healing both internally and externally. It helps to detoxify the liver, reduce lymphatic congestion and reduce inflammation in the digestive system. “With Lâche-Lymphe and the Immune’Attune formulas, I recommend alternating them. Use a bottle of Lache Lymphe and then take a break and go through the bottle and stay on the cycle.”
