Jojoba History
Intro your skin to the ultimate multi-tasking ingredient.
Known for its resiliency and ability to adapt, jojoba oil, which is a liquid wax ester, is known for having a chemical composition closely resembling the sebum found in human skin.
A little jojoba history: In the 18th century, indigenous peoples softened Jojoba seeds by heating them, and then, using a mortar and pestle, grounding them into a buttery salve to use as a conditioning agent for the skin.
Jojoba oil is comprised of nearly all the vitamins and minerals required to facilitate the growth of healthy skin, including sensitive skin. It’s also a multi-tasker in that it hydrates while cleansing and controlling oil production, improves skin texture, and reduces the look of unwanted marks.
Medicinally, jojoba oil, when applied to wounds and sunburns, can facilitate the healing process by eliminating bacteria and reducing inflammation.
Jojoba Oil’s Chemical Constituents
Gadoleic Acid: Includes emollient properties, readily absorbed by the skin, and balances sebum production.
Erucic Acid: Non-greasy and emollient, provides oxidative stability, lends a silky texture, and is an effective natural alternative to silicone.
Oleic Acid: Maintains suppleness and skin radiance, improves the appearance of premature wrinkles and fine lines, boosts immunity, exhibits antioxidant properties, and helps prevent joint inflammation, stiffness, and pain.
Palmitic Acid: A common saturated fatty acid that acts as an emollient and antioxidant.
Palmitoleic Acid: Delays the appearance of premature aging, moisturizes and tightens the skin, enhances radiance, and strengthens skin elasticity.
Stearic Acid: Contains cleansing properties that purge dirt, sweat and excess sebum from the skin, binds water and oil, and softens skin.
Behenic Acid: Lubricates and soothes skin, restores the epidermis’ natural oils, improves overall levels of hydration, acts as a thickening agent and surfactant in formulations, and offers opacity in clear liquid solutions.
Vitamin E: Includes antioxidant properties that slow the aging process, boosts circulation, helps repair scarred and blemished skin, prevents moisture loss from the skin, soothes sunburns, and balances oil production.
Vitamin B Complex: Helps prevent signs of aging, improves the skin’s ability to retain moisture, regulates skin’s pigment production to prevent hyperpigmentation, and speeds up healing of wounds.
