Aloe Vera Deep Dive
The foundation of all In Fiore emulsions is aloe. The entire water phase of our Complexe de Fleur, Vis Clair Suprême, Crème de Fleur, Treate, and Vitale, are based on this supportive ingredient. It’s a powerhouse and workhorse that makes everything work better. Here, we put the spotlight on all things aloe.
ALOE VERA, DEFINED
Aloe Vera is a perennial, drought-resisting, succulent plant belonging to the Lily (Liliaceae) family, which, historically, has been used for a variety of medicinal purposes. The plant has stiff grey-green lance-shaped leaves containing clear gel in a central mucilaginous pulp. Clinical evaluations have revealed that the pharmacologically active ingredients are concentrated in both the gel and rind of the aloe vera leaves. These active ingredients have been shown to have analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
THE HEALING PROPERTIES OF ALOE
The full name of the Aloe Vera plant is called Aloe Barbadenis and is known as the 'the silent healer.' The aloe plant is between 99 and 99.5 percent water, with an average pH of 4.5. The remaining solid material contains over 75 different constituents, including vitamins, minerals, enzymes, sugars, phenolic compounds, lignin, saponins, sterols, amino acids, and salicylic acid.
VITAMINS include essential antioxidants A, C, and F, niacin, vitamin B2 , choline, and folic acid.
ENZYMES build new proteins, transport materials around the cell, and carry out other important cellular functions.
MINERALS sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc, chromium, and iron are all found in the aloe plant.
SUGARS are derived from the mucilage layer of the plant. They form 25 percent of the solid fraction and comprise long-chain polysaccharides.
PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS possess powerful analgesic effects. Topically, they can absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the formation of melanin.
LIGNIN endows topical aloe preparations with their singular penetrative ability to carry other active ingredients deep into the skin to nourish the dermis.
SAPONINS are a soapy smoothing substance that comprises 3 percent of the gel that are general cleansers with antiseptic properties.
SALICYLIC ACID has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and helps remove devitalized tissue and heal wounds.
AMINO ACIDS are the building blocks of proteins. Aloe Vera gel provides 20 of the 22 necessary amino acids.
THE ENERGETIC PROPERTIES OF ALOE
The aloe plant was developed to bring forth balance and the ability to survive in harsh climates. Also used as a flower essence (Adapt'Âscend), some of the plant's herbal properties are excellent for treating most carcinogenic conditions, especially where there is a general breakdown or degeneration of tissue.
Another function of aloe vera is to stimulate the nervous system. The circulatory flow is also increased, particularly when the aloe is rubbed over the skin. It allows fluidium to flow freely between the cells, particularly for healing various skin conditions.
Aloe vera is effective for many skin conditions, especially burns and lacerations. When blended with essential oils, aloe enhances the transference of energy from the oils into the living cell. Dr. Berkowsky, N.M.D., M.H., H.M.C. cites, "In actuality, every living cell must be animated by a vital force, or "ensouled," and it's this incarnation of higher forces into living tissue that lends each organism its tangible expression."
