“Scent is like music.”
– Alexis Badiyi
Name:
Alexis Badiyi
What & Where:
New York City-based freelance creative.
Ingredient:
Saffron.
Olfactory Nostalgia:
I grew up in Los Angeles and my father, who is Persian, coveted saffron as a spice in our home. The rich golden hue is the beloved jewel of Persian cuisine. Our home was filled with the scent of saffron painted basmati rice. I still have little tins of red gold that he would bring home from trips to Iran.
Perfumery as Medicine:
Scent is like music. It can viscerally transport me to places and times in my life. Yet, it has such a way of grounding and centering my whole self.
