Olfactory Nostalgia with Alison Carroll
HINOKI
At In Fiore, we believe the skin is a sense organ and scent initiates healing. Olfactory Nostalgia is a look at medicinal triggers, scented memories, and the feelings that ensue when taking in a distinct ingredient.
Meet Alison Carroll, Joshua Tree, California-based co-founder of Wonder Valley, a beauty brand deeply rooted in olive that is hand-harvested and expertly milled from Northern California. Naturally, Alison knows olive oil inside and out and, along with her husband, who both saw an opportunity to create consciously crafted blends for a healthy lifestyle.
“Fragrances can be a bridge to the natural world, a direct link with the plant kingdom.”

Name:
Alison Carroll
What & Where:
Co-founder of Wonder Valley
Ingredient:
Hinoki
Olfactory Nostalgia:
Hinoki reminds me of my travels through Japan, particularly the last trip for my husband Jay’s birthday. It was our first time driving a car in Japan and it gave us access to more remote areas, like the Noto Peninsula, to explore different onsens. One, in particular, had very fragrant hinoki wooden tubs to soak in.
Perfumery as Medicine:
Fragrances can be a bridge to the natural world, a direct link with the plant kingdom.
