In Fiore Voyages: Marrakech
Travel has always been at the heart of In Fiore. The history of the ingredients we source from around the globe provides a trusted foundation for my formulations. Centuries-old healing modalities, passed down through generations and from all parts of the world, inform my beauty rituals. I am forever inspired by the wisdom I collect on my voyages.
Having traveled at length for decades, I’m often a resource for friends headed to the destinations I adore. Today, I’m thrilled to introduce In Fiore Voyages: Marrakech, the first of a series of guides to my most-loved cities. I’ll be sharing how and where I like to unwind, indulge, and explore—as well as the In Fiore products I carry with me. I hope you’ll be inspired to follow in my footsteps, and if you feel compelled, share your own In Fiore Voyages on Instagram with the hashtag #InFioreVoyages.
Bon Voyage,
Unwind
A secluded Moorish-style palace in the Palmeraie, just a 15-minute drive from the medina, the paradisiacal Ksar Char Bagh estate is an ode to calm and the perfect place to unwind with a sense of privacy and luxury. The Harim-suites (“harim” means a small apartment in a palace in ancient Persian language), some with their own pools, offer spaces to relax in the sun, read in the shade, sleep, or just enjoy your interior spaces and private garden or terrace. Do not miss a traditional Moroccan bath—a long, ritualistic cleansing—in their exquisite red-marble Hamman. And, of course, there's this:
For such a lavish experience, this Alhambra-like retreat does not forsake authenticity. Take, for example, the fact that you’re greeted at the grand entrance by a gatekeeper Falcon named Fox. (Like me, she doesn't like her picture taken.) The estate is surrounded by 10 acres of grounds for you to explore, including a farm and fruit orchards where they press their own olive oil.
Dr. Char-Bagh Specialty (Made by Request):
Infusion of rosemary and verbena from the chef's herb garden
with lemon, ginger, and local honey.
Alternately, I love El Fenn, in the heart of Medina, for its two pools, spa/hammam, and a to-die-for rooftop with a restaurant, bar service, and plenty of great nooks for lounging. If you want legendary luxury (in the vein of the Ritz Carlton Paris), La Mamounia is your spot. It boasts one of the most exquisite indoor pools and spas around. On the outskirts of Marrakech, you’ll find Peacock Pavilions, a socially responsible Moroccan-chic boutique hotel with luxurious amenities like tented yoga pavilions, romantic in-room fireplaces, and plush king-sized beds. I love that Peacock Pavilions matches a voluntary Do Good Tax asked of its patrons and hosts weekly activities to support Project Soar, a non-profit organization established to empower girls. And, if you want to break away from Marrakech for a night or two, head to Le Jardin des Douars in Essaouira, a port city and resort on Morocco’s Atlantic coast.
Indulge
Set within a magnificent 16th century building, Le Jardin is a garden oasis that conjures that Sixties/Seventies Morocco vibe we all know and love. Come for lunch, dinner, or simply to lounge about with a late afternoon cocktail. A welcome respite from the bustle of the nearby souks, Nomad specializes in modern interpretations of traditional cuisine using fresh local produce and spices. And if you’ve ever wanted to try a camel burger, this is your chance: Clock is a restaurant and art space with regular live music, good conversation, and plenty of Moroccan specialties as well as vegan and gluten-free options. El Fenn is, hands-down, my favorite place to enjoy a rooftop cocktail at sunset.
Explore
A visit to Jardin Majorelle is a must. I recommend going in the early morning to beat the crowds. You’ll find a Berber Museum, a fabulous bookstore, and one of the most beautiful boutiques for shopping. And, of course, I find few things more mesmerizing and visually inspiring than wandering through the seemingly endless maze of souks in the medina.
Post-Flight
Firmante Elevating Leg Tonic helps to stimulate circulation and relieve stagnation after long-haul flights. I recommend having a long bath or scheduling a massage soon after arrival to combat travel-related stress and jetlag.
Pre-Sun
Fleur Vibrante Serum Cerate and Calendula Solution Botanique to fortify and enhance the skin's natural defenses.
Poolside
Vitale Toning Floral Essence reinforces the skin’s ability to stay hydrated and protected when exposed to intense heat. Fleur Vibrante Serum Cerate soothe and support the skin's tolerance for inflammatory reactions. (Remember a hat and an umbrella are also good ideas.)
Post-Sun
Fleur Vibrante Solution Botanique, Complexe de Fleur, and Vis Clair Suprême restore the skin's energy, replenish antioxidants, improve cellular metabolism, and provide long-lasting hydration.
